A coastline made for slow days
North of Corfu Town, the coast road winds past a string of small coves backed by olive groves and cypress trees. The water here is usually calm and very clear, which makes it a joy for swimming, snorkelling and taking a small boat out for the day.
Kalami and the Durrells
The little bay of Kalami is known for its connection to the Durrell family. Writer Lawrence Durrell lived in the White House by the water in the 1930s, and the building is now a taverna.
Nearby Agni and Agios Stefanos have similar charm, with tavernas you can often reach by boat.
Kassiopi
Further north, the harbour village of Kassiopi has a ruined castle, coastal walking paths and a good choice of restaurants. It's a handy base if you'd like to walk out for dinner.
